Public exhibition display plans for affordable housing in Bushey

Friday, May 26, 2006

Residents of the Girtin Road, Munro Road and Gulland Close housing area in Bushey will have the opportunity to take a look at plans for their new flats and houses at a public exhibition.

PCHA, who are part of the Genesis Housing Group, are holding a public exhibition in Little Reddings School, Harcourt Road on June 5th, 6th and 8th between 1.30 - 8pm, where local residents can come along and learn more about the exciting development proposals.

A planning application will shortly be submitted by PCHA to Hertsmere Borough Council to build over 200 new homes in an area of Bushey with a recognised need for affordable housing. All existing tenants will be provided with new homes, which will consist of 2 bedroom flats and 3 and 4 bedroom houses with gardens.

"It's important for residents and locals to fully understand what we're proposing", explained PCHA Project Co-ordinator, Stephanie Kerbyson. "Residents are going to play a key part in the decision making process for the community facilities, public spaces and other aspects of the proposals including choosing new names for the courtyards and an overall name for the estate."

As well as existing tenants, all other residents living in the surrounding area will be encouraged to drop in, view the plans and talk to representatives from PCHA. "Along with high-quality housing the proposals will include a new community facility and outdoor public space," continued Ms Kerbyson. "The project is going to provide a new start for tenants of this community and have a significant, positive impact on the living environment of the entire area. It's vital that everyone come along to this exhibition and get involved in the proposals from the very start of the process."

The proposals also include 100 units for private sale, which will bring more people to the area and help to create a mixed and vibrant community.

Notes to Editor

The proposals will see the existing housing estate currently located along Girtin Road, Munro Road and Gulland Close demolished and replaced with 211 new housing units.

All existing tenants will be provided with new homes. There will be a mix of 2 bedroom flats and 3 and 4-bed houses with gardens. 100 of the units will be made available for private sale.

Resident car parking will be included and extra spaces for visitors will be made available.

Statutory home loss allowance will be provided to all residents.

As part of a tenant choice programme, tenants will be asked to choose from a range of new fixtures and fittings including spaces for kitchen appliances; choice of floor coverings; colour of paint and tiles and options for storage.

A new community facility, open public space, better access routes to the estate and improved public transport will also be included as part of the proposals.

PCHA, formally Paddington Churches Housing Association, was founded in 1965 in response to the Milner Holland Report that established beyond doubt the desperate situation of housing in London. Today, PCHA owns and/or manages more than 10,000 homes in and around London.

Genesis Housing Group provides homes and services to tens of thousands of people across London and the south east. The Group consists of PCHA, Sutherland, Pathmeads and Springboard housing associations. We also have in our group a charitable foundation, Genesis Community. We are one of the largest and most successful housing groups in the UK, owning and/or managing more than 40,000 homes. Our overriding aim is to put customers first and provide an excellent service to all.
