Around 70 people will come together for a day of 'Stars
and Achievers' through PCHA's Len Williams Court Tenants'
Association in Kilburn, on Tuesday 11 March to raise
awareness of the roles women play in our society.
Coinciding with International Women's Day 2008, special
guest speakers at the event will include Sarah Teather MP. Five
women from South Kilburn and the Borough
of Brent who have made outstanding contributions to their
communities will be presented with awards.
Contributions such as music, dance, international cuisine lessons
and an exhibition of arts and crafts created by the older female
residents and other elders of South Kilburn
will be celebrated.
Celebrating the diversity of cultures that exist in these areas,
this project will bring together women from all PCHA's sheltered
houses as well as other women from a variety of ethnic backgrounds,
including Afro-Caribbean, African, British, Irish, Middle Eastern
and European.
Pam Lockley, Managing Director at PCHA, a subsidiary of Genesis
Housing Group, says "We are delighted that these awards have been
designed to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievement of
women in South Kilburn. They have
distinguished themselves through their valuable contributions
towards the development and advancement of the community and PCHA
is proud to be involved."
