PCHA recognises the important role that our tenants and residents
can play in improving the services we provide. The resident
involvement team aims to increase levels of participation among
residents within PCHA.
Resident Involvement seeks to empower tenants and residents to
influence and monitor the service provided in a variety of
ways.
We will:
- Reflect the aspirations of residents as well as PCHA
- Provide residents with information that is relevant and
timely
- Respond to residents' needs as embedded in the PCHA business
plan
- Offer choice and consult regularly with all communities using a
variety of methods
- Support and develop representative local groups
- Support and develop different models of resident
empowerment
- Be accountable to residents through both formal and informal
means
- Have effective means for measuring performance, reviewing
resident involvement
- Provide clear structures for resident involvement.
Resident Involvement works to achieve these goals through:
Consultation
- Asking tenants on their views about policy and procedures
- Consulting on changes that affect your homes
- Consulting on services provided by PCHA (for example our
cleaning and gardening contractor focus group)
Developing Tenant Groups
We will:
- Facilitate the set up of tenants associations and less
structured groups
- Run elections
- Provide support for one year
- Provide financial assistance (grant)
- Provide training on how to run an effective tenant
association
Encouraging Participation
There are many different levels on which residents
can be involved:
- Become a board member
- Join a committee
- Tenants associations
- Action groups
- Contact groups
- Focus
Groups
- Attend Our Annual
Conference

Success - Views on Wheels
PCHA's Hertfordshire Neighbourhood team set off to meet the
residents on a 3 day roadshow in September 2007 covering Dacorum,
Welwyn Hatfield and Stevenage. The team provided support and advice
to residents on a whole range of issues from how to get involved to
debt management and community development.
Tuulia Matikainen, Resident Involvement Officer for
Hertfordshire, managed the roadshow which was the first of it's
kind for PCHA and attracted more than 200 residents, who took time
to put forward their views on issues concerning their homes.
The following quote from a resident in Stevenage sums up the
event well "This day gave me an opportunity to have my say and it
was great to mingle with my neighbours".
