Sheltered Housing
schemes
PCHA provides support services to older tenants in our 11 sheltered
housing schemes. The schemes have an allocated scheme manager who
provides housing related support, benefit advice, activities and
information. These schemes are funded via supporting people and are
subject to regular quality inspections.
Sheltered housing is purpose built or specially adapted housing
designed for elderly people, so they can live independently as part
of the community, but with the additional security of knowing a
scheme manager, (often called a warden) is available to call in an
emergency.
Each sheltered housing scheme is different, but in most cases there
are a number of self-contained individual flats grouped around
communal facilities such as a common room with small kitchen,
laundry room and public telephone.
Each flat has an emergency alarm system that can be used to alert
the scheme manager in the case of an emergency.
